Meeting with representatives of the Vice-Chair of the Justice and Development Party - Turkish Grand National Assembly
De Voorzitter geeft leiding aan alle activiteiten van het Parlement. Hij zit de plenaire vergaderingen en de vergaderingen van de Conferentie van voorzitters voor. Ook vertegenwoordigt hij het Parlement naar buiten toe, met name in de internationale betrekkingen.
Sinds 17 januari 2012 is de Duitse sociaaldemocraat Martin Schulz voorzitter van het Europees Parlement. In het verleden waren de Nederlanders Piet Dankert (1982-1984) en Cees Berkhouwer (1973-1975) voorzitter van het Europees Parlement.
