Martin Schulz expresses solidarity after today’s terrorist attacks

Met dank overgenomen van Voorzitter Europees Parlement (EP-voorzitter) i, gepubliceerd op vrijdag 26 juni 2015.

On behalf of the European Parliament, I express our strong condemnation following the terrorist attacks which targeted Tunisia in Sousse today.

All our thoughts are with the victims and their families and we assure the people and the Tunisian authorities of our full support.

It is Tunisian democracy which is targeted once again, three months after the attack on the Bardo Museum in Tunis.

Today, France and Kuwait were also subject to attacks by individuals or terrorist organisations. Terrorists seek to divide people, to stir up hatred and fear: they will not succeed.

Our fight against terrorism must be relentless. It is a long-term battle that requires all our determination and our unity to resist this criminal and totalitarian ideology.

On all continents, the European Union must strengthen security cooperation with its partners in full respect of democratic principles.
