Verheugen bezoekt Amerika van 19 tot 21 juni (en)

European Commission Vice-President Günter Verheugen, responsible for EU enterprise and industry policy, will travel to the US for a series of high-level meetings from 19 -21 June. The visit centres on the EU-US Summit to be held in Washington on 20 th June. After the Summit, Mr Verheugen will hold bilateral meetings with Robert Portman, US Trade Representative, Allan Hubbard, Chairman of the National Economic Council and Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Commerce.

On the eve of his visit Mr Verheugen said "As the global economy evolves, the US and EU must adapt to change. We must work together to improve the efficiency of the transatlantic market, specifically the issues that reflect the broad integration of our economies. First and foremost, we must strengthen our cooperation in addressing the transatlantic regulatory environment. We must work together to remove costly duplication in the process, helping to create significant opportunities for business and bring benefits to consumers."

On the eve of the EU-US Summit on 19 th June , Mr Verheugen will participate in the ten-year anniversary of the Transatlantic Business Dialogue (TABD), and have an exchange of ideas that plays an integral role in defining the benchmarks to reach a truly barrier-free market between the EU and the US.

Following his participation in the EU-US Summit, Vice President Verheugen will participate in a TABD press conference on Monday, 20 th June at 2pm EST.

On 21 st June , the Commissioner will meet a number of representatives of the Congress. The same day, he will also give a keynote speech on the economic reform agenda at an industry outreach event.
