President Donald Tusk travels to Manila to represent the EU at the ASEAN-EU and East Asia summits

On 14 November President Donald Tusk will attend the ASEAN-EU Summit marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-EU relations.

Leaders are expected to accelerate efforts towards a Strategic Partnership between the European Union and ASEAN and further enhance political and security dialogue and cooperation, based on the new EU-ASEAN Plan of Action 2018-2022.

President Donald Tusk will reiterate the European Union's support to the ASEAN integration process and will address leaders on opportunities for strengthened EU-ASEAN cooperation, in particular on security and global challenges. Leaders are also expected to express their resolve to work together to reinforce the rules-based international order and multilateralism.

A joint statement is expected to be issued following the meeting.

President Donald Tusk will also represent the European Union at the lunch of the East Asia Summit, as guest of the Chair. The European Union will be attending the East Asia Summit for the first time.
