Artikel 29
  1. One or more persons may be excluded from the hereditary succession by Act of Parliament if exceptional circumstances necessitate.
  2. The Bill for this purpose shall be presented by or on behalf of the King. The two Houses of the States General shall consider and decide upon the matter in joint session. Such a Bill shall be passed only if at least twothirds of the votes cast are in favour.

  2. Die entsprechende Vorlage wird vom König oder in seinem Auftrag eingebracht. Die Generalstaaten beraten und beschließen darüber in einer Vollversammlung. Für die Annahme der Vorlage ist eine Mehrheit von mindestens zwei Dritteln der abgegebenen Stimmen erforderlich.

In exceptional circumstances, the government may introduce a bill excluding one or more people from succession to the Throne. The bill must be introduced by the government; a private member’s bill is not possible.

It must then be approved by a two-thirds majority in a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Possible grounds include clear unfitness for the Throne due to physical or mental disability, or conduct by a successor that conflicts with the interests of the country and its people.
