The temporary replacement of a member of the States General during pregnancy and maternity leave or during illness shall be regulated by Act of Parliament.

On 21 September 2006, the Act regulating the temporary replacement of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the States General, the Provincial Councils, and the Municipal Councils due to pregnancy and childbirth or illness came into force (Government Gazette 418, 2006). The regulation in question is part of the Electoral Act.
