Explanation
Please note: Only the Dutch-language version of the Constitution has legal effect.
The Constitution does not contain a literal text for the oath or promise that new Members of Parliament must take. Just as with the oath taken by ministers pursuant to Article 49, the Constitution contains only the substantive content of the oath.
The content of the oath or promise is laid down in the Act on the Swearing-in of Ministers and Members of the States General.
Pursuant to the Act on the Use of the Frisian Language in Legal Proceedings, the oath or promise may also be taken in Frisian.
