Artikel 61
  1. Each House shall appoint a Speaker from among its members.
  2. Each House shall appoint a Clerk who, like the other officials of the two Houses, may not be a member of the States General.

Explanation

Please note: Only the Dutch-language version of the Constitution has legal effect. 

Each Chamber appoints its own Speaker. The Constitution does not specify for how long, but the Rules of Procedure adopted by both Chambers pursuant to Article 72 state that they appoint a Speaker for the period until the next election. The appointment procedure is also set out in the Rules of Procedure.

Each Chamber also appoints a Clerk. The Clerk and civil servants employed by one of the Chambers cannot be members of the States General.
