[autom.vertaling] De Commissie keurt hulp voor citrusvruchtensector in goed Sicilië (en)

woensdag 15 oktober 2003

The European Commission has, considering it compatible with the common market, approved aid of €5 164 569 planned by Sicily for various types of action (investment, information, promotion) in connection with citrus cultivation. Sicily Region's budget supplements that of the central government for the national citrus cultivation plan.

Mr Franz Fischler, Commissioner responsible for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, welcomed the favourable outcome of the scrutiny procedure: "This decision will enable Sicily to foster the rapid progress of a sector that is important to its economy."

In 2001 the Commission opened a scrutiny procedure for the planned aid1, since at the time when the Sicilian authorities asked it to adopt a decision on a range of aid measures planned for Sicily examination of the national citrus cultivation plan had not yet been completed. The Commission was therefore unable to be certain that the aid was compatible with the common market.

Now that on completion of its examination the Commission has been able to approve the national citrus cultivation plan2, and the Sicilian authorities have notified their intention of using their own budget resources to supplement the national resources and at the same time scrupulously respecting the financing terms set for the plan, all points of uncertainty raised when the scrutiny procedure was opened have disappeared.
