African and Caribbean minorities in France are set to form a single list for the forthcoming European elections, La Libération reports.

The President of the Africagora association - which represents these minorities, Dogad Dogoui - said "[for the regional elections], we chose negotiation and dialogue and the parties didn't want to know us. This time, we need a shock. Minorities need to be able to reunite, show that it is possible to get the vote of our own citizens".

Mr Dogoui added that he was hoping to persuade Asian and North African groups to join this list, which includes left-wingers as well as right-wingers.

"We can represent ourselves best", he concluded.

A meeting of the leaders of this new group will meet today (10 March) to flesh out their ideas. They hope to gain 100,000 signatures to support their cause by the end of April.

And Mr Dogoui says that "the ghost of discrimination is haunting the Republic".

Furthermore, he says that France "is not respecting its promise of equality".

European elections will take place in France on 13 June.
