Van der Linden bespreekt in Boekarest programma Roemeens voorzitterschap Raad van Europa (en)

Strasbourg, 21.11.2005 - The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), René van der Linden i, will make an official visit to Romania on 23 and 24 November at the beginning of the Romanian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the 46-member Organisation. He will meet with Traian Basescu, President of the Republic, Nicolae Vacaroiu, President of the Senate, Adrian Nastase, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Prime Minister, and Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The discussions will focus on Romania's contribution to the democratic process in the region, the fight against corruption, the situation in Transnistria and trafficking in human beings.

Standing Committee meeting

On 25 November, the Standing Committee (*) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will meet in Bucharest, at the invitation of the Romanian Senate. The meeting will be opened by the President of PACE and the President of the Senate, Nicolae Vacaroiu. The participants will hold an exchange of views with Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The Standing Committee, whose meeting will coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, is expected to adopt a declaration on this subject.

  • Legislative elections in Azerbaijan
  • European navigable waterways: progress in the Danube-Oder-Elbe canal project
  • The Assembly's budgetary powers
  • Activities of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
  • Private management of the cultural heritage
  • 50th Anniversary of the Europe Prize - stocktaking and outlook
  • Transparency of the Committee of Ministers' activities
