Berlusconi wil Smaghi als voorzitter Italiaanse centrale bank (en)

Italian PM Silvio Belusconi has opted for Bini Smaghi to take over as head of Italy's central bank, defusing a diplomatic row with France, the FT reports. Paris said it would support Italian Mario Draghi becoming head of the ECB only if Smaghi, currently on the ECB board, leaves.
