Overeenkomst over het gebruik van fosfaten in (vaat)wasmiddelen (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Pools voorzitterschap Europese Unie 2e helft 2011 i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 15 november 2011.

Today, Coreper agreed on a compromise regarding the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 as regards to the use of phosphates and other phosphorous compounds in consumer laundry detergents and consumer automatic dishwasher detergents.

Coreper has authorised the Polish Presidency to provide the dossier to the European Parliament to vote on at the plenary session (December 2011). This will also give the possibility to adopt the proposal in the first reading.

The agreement will contribute to the reduction of eutrophisation (growth of algae and blue-green algae in the water). The consumers were also given the right to be informed on the content of phosphorous in laundry and dishwasher detergents (tablets).

Moreover, the project harmonises at the European Union level the provisions in respect of the use of phosphates and other phosphorous compounds in detergents. The compromise will also have a positive impact on the free movement of goods, limitation of the barriers and enterprises’ activities on the EU market.
