Today, EU and African Ministers have met in Dakar to decide on the future orientations for developing the cooperation process on migration and development. Launched in 2006, the initiative, known as the "Rabat Process", has facilitated the emergence of a global, concerted and balanced approach to the management of migration and development along the Central and West African migration routes. Many concrete actions have been funded, in particular by the EU, to tackle irregular immigration or human trafficking, promote legal migration opportunities, improve skills of health workers or strengthen administrative capacity and logistics as well as judicial systems and police in partner countries.
