Ireland on Monday announced a series of further austerity measures, amounting to €1.8bn, with health, social welfare and education bearing the brunt of the cuts. Dublin is trying to get its budget deficit, currently the biggest in the industrialised world, under control as part of an EU-IMF bailout.
