The head of the Italian bishops' conference, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, has declared that evading taxes is a "sin” and has called for "serious, effective and relentless" action against such sinners, the Guardian reports. The cardinal's remarks may help efforts by Mario Monti i’s technocratic government to lower Italy's budget deficit.
