Met dank overgenomen van Deens voorzitterschap Europese Unie 1e helft 2012 i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 22 mei 2012.

Today Nicolai Wammen will discuss ways to generate investment, growth and jobs in the EU i with the parliamentarians. The debate takes place ahead of the informal meeting among the Heads of State or Government in Brussels 23 May. Wammen will also participate in debate specifically about ways to improve the conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).

Nicolai Wammen states:

"The Danish Presidency works hard to ensure that growth and employment stays on the EU agenda. We must seize all opportunities to create growth now and ensure that our ambitions are transformed into concrete initiatives to boost growth and employment. SMEs can play a key role in this regard as they represent a dynamic and flexible part of our economy. I therefore look particularly forward to discussing this issue with the parliamentarians."

Tuesday Nicolai Wammen also participates in a debate on the fight against homophobia in Europe. This debate is a follow-up on the International Day Against Homophobia, which took place on 17 May 2012.

Wednesday the Minister will represent the High Representative, Vice-President of the Commission Catherine Ashton i in two debates on the worsening conflict between Sudan and South Sudan and on the military coup in Guinea-Bissau.

Wednesday Minister for Economics and the Interior, Margrethe Vestager, will attend a debate on the possibilities of introducing a financial transaction tax in the EU.

The European Parliament’s session starts Monday 21 May and ends Thursday 24 May.
