When it comes to cyber security, member states and the EU face a dilemma. On the one hand they should be better prepared to prevent and react to cyber attacks on critical infrastructure, like energy grids. At the same time they must guarantee the freedom of the internet and the protection of personal data. How this can be achieved will be debated by experts and member of the EP's civil liberties committee on 20 February. Follow the debate live on our website from 15.00 CET.

The European Commission recently proposed a new directive to ensure that information networks and online data are properly protected in the EU. The proposal, together with recent findings about cyber crime, will be debated in the EP.
