Schengen Information System II van start gegaan (en)
Met dank overgenomen van Directoraat-generaal Migratie en Binnenlandse Zaken (HOME) i, gepubliceerd op dinsdag 9 april 2013.
Today, the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II) enters into operation.
SIS II will continue to play a crucial role in facilitating the free movement of people within the Schengen area. It is replacing the current system, which has been in operation since the mid -1990's, with a more up-to date system offering additional functionalities.
The system II allows for easy information exchanges between national border control, customs and police authorities, and ensures that crossing borders can take place in a safe environment.
