EU-missie Oekraïne verlengd (en)

Met dank overgenomen van Voorzitter Europees Parlement (EP-voorzitter) i, gepubliceerd op donderdag 18 april 2013.

The findings of the second report of the European Parliament monitoring mission to Ukraine formed by Pat Cox i, former President of the European Parliament, and Aleksander Kwaśniewski, former President of the Republic of Poland, were presented today, 18 April, to the Conference of Presidents.

Following the meeting, the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i stated:

"All EP i political group leaders unanimously called Cox-Kwasniewski mission to Ukraine a success, endorsed its prolongation and invited the mission to report back again at the end of September. This is a good decision.

The monitoring mission has proved to be a powerful tool to engage with all segments of Ukrainian society: government, opposition, civil society and the judiciary.

The mission has helped to build mutual confidence not just between the EU and Ukraine, but also within Ukraine, even if the divide between the government and the opposition remains enormous.

The mission's reputation of impartiality and independence is a great asset to both the EU and to Ukraine, and it is part of a process of increasing engagement, which has to continue."
