A year ago, following the empowering given to Parliament by the Lisbon Treaty, this EU institution decided it wanted to have a much stronger role in the process of the Schengen Evaluation Mechanism. The Council rejected this and negotiations were frozen on this and other related files.

Last week, Council and Parliament reached an agreement which will be voted in committee on Thursday, 6th June and in June’s Plenary, in Strasbourg.
