Litouws voorzitterschap streeft naar verhoging efficiëntie SIS II (en)
On July 15 the meeting of SIS/SIRENE subgroup of Working Party for Schengen Matters will be held in EU Council in Brussels and for the first time will be chaired by representatives of Lithuanian police. During the meeting the process of development of Lithuanian initiative on improvement of practice of implementation of international sanctions, introducing third-country citizens personal data into the Schengen Information System, will be presented as well as information about further actions on the preparation of the draft Council conclusions.
This Lithuanian initiative aims to improve the efficiency of implementation of EU Council decisions, which define restrictive measures for the individuals to enter the Schengen area, particularly in the area of the quality of personal data. After implementation of proposed measures, rights of the citizens of EU and third-countries, crossing the borders, will be more protected and situations, when persons, for which internationals sanctions are not applied to, are stopped, will be avoid more effectively.
After new legal measures of Schengen Information System coming into force and the launch of the second generation Schengen Information System (April 9, 2013), the responsibility lied with the European Union Commission, and the daily exploitation of the central SIS system were taken over by the EU Agency for large-scale IT systems (eu-LISA). Therefore, remaining issues related with closure of SIS1+ will be discussed during the meeting.
The second generation system SIS II provides a new opportunity to enter biometric data (fingerprints, photos), new categories of data (air vehicles, boats, industrial equipment, containers, outboard motors, securities and payment cards); along with the notification to enter a copy of European arrest warrant and to relate notifications together.
SIS/SIRENE subgroup, which ensures proper functioning and solves arising problems of SIS, also deal with current SIS performance issues, statistical data, financial issues of maintenance of the central SIS as well as initiatives of Member States of various aspects of activity of SIRENE Bureaus.
