Europol en Litouwse politie organiseren op 11-12 september een conferentie in Den Haag (en)

On 11-12 September 2013, an annual meeting of the chiefs of EU and third countries law enforcement institutions - the European Police Chiefs Convention (hereinafter EPCC) will take place in The Hague (the Netherlands). The event is being organized by Europol and the Lithuanian Police. Together with the director of Europol, Lithuanian Police Commissioner General Saulius Skvernelis is going to preside over the Convention this year.

Representatives of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania and Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU will join the chiefs of the Lithuanian Police to take part in the meeting.

EPCC is one of the most important Lithuanian Presidency i events in the field of law enforcement. The highest level executives of law enforcement institutions will participate in the meeting. This year it is anticipated to have about 300 participants from different EU Member States, European Commission, European Parliament, diverse EU agencies and international organizations. Representatives of Europol’s partners from the third countries will also take part in the event.

In the course of the meeting Stefano Manservisi, being the representative of the European Commission, will review and present further ways of developing justice and home affairs issues.

The following relevant law enforcement-related issues will be considered at the EPCC:

  Influence of scientific researches and the industry on the development of the implementation of modern technology in the field of ensuring safety;
• - 

  Benefit of international cooperation, peculiarities of implementation of witness protection and informant handling;
• - 

  Police leadership;
• - 

  Data protection.

Special expert groups have been compiled in advance to consider each of the above mentioned issues. They have performed comprehensive analysis of legal regulation, current practice in the Member States, financial aspects and problematic questions, and prepared their conclusions on these matters.

Experts from the Lithuanian Police have participated in the activities of all the expert groups; moreover, they have presided over the Witness Protection and Informant Handling Working Group. Lithuanian Police Commissioner General S. Skvernelis will present the experts’ work results to the participants of the event and will propose recommendations on the development of this specific sphere of law enforcement.

Bilateral meetings, which have been conferred individually by all the delegations, are another important part of the EPCC. Lithuanian Police delegation is planning to meet with Norwegian, Finnish and Polish police chiefs, CEPOL director as well as their German counterparts.
