Conferentie functioneren interne markt met nadruk op wederzijdse erkenning in Vilnius (en)

The conference ‘Mutual Recognition: Boosting the Single Market’ is to be held in Vilnius on 15 October. The event is organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania, ‘BusinessEurope’ and the Lithuanian confederation of industrialists LPK. The aim of the conference is to discuss the problems of the EU Single market of goods and services with particular emphasis on the implementation of the mutual recognition in the EU Single market.

‘The potential of the mutual recognition principle could be better utilized. It can bring undoubted benefits for EU business, reduce adaptation costs and administrative burdens, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. The goal of today’s conference is to exchange views on what could be done for better implementation of the mutual recognition principle’, - said Vice-minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania Rasa Noreikienė.

The views on the free movement and mutual recognition of goods, mutual recognition and mobility of services, people and transport will be exchanged by the representatives from European Commission, European Parliament, Lithuanian authorities, scientists and business.

Better implementation of the mutual recognition principle is one of the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency priorities on the competitiveness and single market agenda. Insufficient implementation of this principle causes administrative burden for enterprises conducting cross-border business, worsening access to markets. Disregard of the principle of mutual recognition also creates a barrier for innovation and development, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The mutual recognition principle guarantees free movement of goods and services without the need to harmonize the Member States' national legislation. Goods which are lawfully produced in one Member State cannot be banned from sale on the territory of another Member State, even if they are produced according to technical or quality specifications different from those applied to its own products.

This conference is one of the EU Council Presidency events of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania.
