Commissie en Frankrijk zorgen voor betere gezondheidszorg in Ivoorkust (en)
27/11/2013 - People in need in Côte d´Ivoire will receive better maternal and child health services as a result of cooperation between Côte d´Ivoire, France and the European Commission. The tri-partite initiative is an important novelty.
The funds will contribute to ensuring a smooth transition from humanitarian aid to a sustainable, long-term development in the country's public health services, as Côte d´Ivoire gets back on its feet. The money will target the regions which were the most affected by the fighting which broke out after the disputed 2010 elections.
A debt-reduction and development contract (C2D) signed by France and Côte d´Ivoire in December 2012 has made possible the transfer of EUR 18 million to the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO).
The assistance will fund for the next three years free national healthcare for a million pregnant women and for children under the age of five.
