EEAS lanceert documentaire over het GBVB (en)
The EEAS i is launching today a web documentary on the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
This multimedia resource shows how CSDP has become a cornerstone of the EU's comprehensive approach to foreign policy, making the EU an effective security provider around the world, thereby also enhancing its own security.
It gives an overview of the CSDP, its history, key concepts, achievements as well as perspectives for the future. Articles, videos, interactive maps are all in one place, for you to discover.
The way forward
Today, the EU is called on to assume greater responsibilities as a security provider. Security threats are changing and current financial constraints affect the development of future capabilities. More than ever before, security and defence matter. CSDP plays a strong role as part of the EU's comprehensive approach to conflict management, but more cooperation among Member States is needed. In addition, the defence sector is a driver for jobs, growth and innovation.
EU leaders will discuss Security and Defence issues during this week's European Council (19-20 December), when they are expected to provide further guidance and vision for CSDP.
The Council has already agreed on 25 November a set of comprehensive and ambitious conclusions on the CSDP . The discussion was based on High Representative Catherine Ashton's report on CSDP issued in October and on July's Commission communication on the defence sector.
