Schulz on Ukraine and reported release of Yulia Tymoshenko
The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz i made the following statement on the situation in Ukraine and on the reported release of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"On behalf of the European Parliament, I warmly welcome the reports of Yulia Tymoshenko's release from prison. This is an historic moment for Ukraine and Europe. My thoughts are with Yulia, her family and supporters.
I would like to pay tribute, at this stage, to Pat Cox i, former European Parliament President, and Aleksander Kwasniewski, former President of Poland for their dedication in helping to prepare the grounds for her release.
The situation in Ukraine is very fluid. The European Parliament delegation of MEPs is on the ground in Kiev at this historic time. The announcement of Presidential elections for 25 May are particularly welcome and important. Change is coming to Ukraine. I pay tribute to the peaceful protestors and I call for all to remain calm."
