US military chief says Nato will protect allies if need be

The US is ready to back Ukraine and its European allies with military actions if necessary, the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, Martin Dempsey has said. "We do have treaty obligations with our Nato allies. If that treaty obligation is triggered, we would respond," Dempsey said.
