The European Academy of Yuste Foundation announces grants for European Studies ‘Charles V European Award’
The European Academy of Yuste Foundation announces its European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies Charles V European Award - José Manuel Durão Barroso (grants of 3,000 euro) and its VII Doctoral Seminar in Contemporary European Multidisciplinary Studies with the academic support of SEGEI (Socio-Economic Governance and European Identity) Research Network, to take place at the Royal Monastery of Yuste (Extremadura, Spain) in the second semester of 2014.
The research theme for these Charles V European Award grants is related to the latest recipient of the Prize awarded by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, in this case the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso. Therefore, the 2014 research subject, from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, is "History, memory and European integration from the point of view of EU transatlantic relations".
The aim is addressing, with this call, European relations with America in their broadest sense, in the fields of trade and exchange, academic and cultural arrangements, as well as the historical ties between countries of the old continent and the American territory as a whole: Spain and Latin-America, Portugal and Brazil or United Kingdom and the U.S., France and Canada and so on.
Special attention will be paid to subjects related to intercultural dialogue, multicultural societies and cooperation between the EU and the American Continent from a multidisciplinary perspective (historical, political, scientific, economic, legal, cultural and other disciplines of humanities and social sciences as well as other branches of science).
These grants, therefore, are intended for American and European doctoral students who are carrying out research in a field related to this session’s subject, to enable them to prepare a research paper for presentation and debate in a Doctoral Seminar on Contemporary European Multdisciplinary Studies, organized by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation. This Doctoral Seminar, coordinated by the SEGEI Research Network and the University of Extremadura, will be attended by members of the SEGEI Research Network, guest experts and Yuste Alumni from previous sessions. The proceedings will be published in Cuadernos de Yuste (PIE - Peter Lang).
Considering that one of the aims of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation is to bring together Europe and Extremadura, and in this specific case a strong historical relationship in many different areas between Extremadura and various countries of the American Continent, special emphasis is placed on inviting researchers from Extremadura to participate in this competition, reserving at least one grant for a project submitted by a researcher from that region. On the other hand, with the aim to promote participation of researchers from countries in the American Continent, as well as exchange, cooperation and intercultural dialogue between researchers in the EU and other countries in the American Continent, a special invitation is extended to researchers from countries in the American Continent and, to this end, one research grant will be reserved for a researcher from this area.
Applications can be submitted until 30th June, 2014. For more information please visit:
