Conference on 18 September on Copernicus project and EU space policies
The strategic and economic importance of the sector for the European Union future
The conference "Copernicus for environment and human security - from research to operations" is held on 18 September at ASI (the Italian Space Agency) headquarters. The contribution of Copernicus project to the European Union policies, conservation of the cultural heritage, border control and maritime surveillance are at the heart of the debate. The event also aims at promoting the role of the space, not only as a priority strategic sector for the EU, but also as a key factor for the European economy.
When operational, Copernicus - which was formerly known as GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme) - will provide accurate information using a network of satellites. Such information will improve environmental management, help us understand and mitigate climate change effects and ensure civil security.
