“Everybody has embarked on the fight against climate change in a pragmatic manner and we can say that an agreement is possible” and that there are “all the necessary conditions to achieve an ambitious understanding” at the next European Council. These are the words of Sandro Gozi, Secretary of State for European Affairs, after the General Affairs Council meeting held in Luxembourg. His view is shared by Maros Sefcovic i, Vice President of the European Commission: “there are the right conditions to find an agreement at Thursday and Friday’s summit” because “we have to give an answer to our citizens on such an important issue”.

With regard to the next European Council, that will take place in Brussels, Gozi underlined that “most conclusions on economy will focus on public and private investments and growth”, stating also how great a result it would be for the Italian presidency.

Attached are the conclusions of the General Affairs Council meeting held in Luxembourg on 21 October 2014 and chaired by Sandro Gozi, Secretary of State for European Affairs to the Italian Presidency.
