The Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) and Urios Study association for International and European law are organising a lecture and discussion on the pressing issue of human trafficking.

What more can the Netherlands do to counter human trafficking? Gert-Jan Segers, member of the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) for the ChristenUnie, will discuss his controversial proposal for a new law to criminalise visiting prostitutes who are doing forced labour in order to tackle human trafficking.

Despite continuing national and international efforts to combat human trafficking men, women and young children get trafficked under horrendous circumstances every day. According to the National Rapporteur on Human Trafficking there were more than 1.437 victims (of which 88% were female) reported in 2013 in the Netherlands alone.

The lecture will be an interactive event with a lot of time for debate and questions. Signing up is possible as of now by sending an e-mail to c.l.panhuyzen@uu.nl. Make sure to sign up as soon as possible as there is a limited amount of seats.
