HR/VP Federica Mogherini participation in 3rd CELAC Summit in San José, Costa Rica
High Representative/ Vice-President Federica Mogherini attended this week the 3rd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Costa Rica.
Heads of State and Government gathered in San José on 27-28 January to address key issues such as the fight against poverty and good governance as they continue shaping the future of their regional organisation. The CELAC Summit, said Mrs Mogherini, was the chance to assure the commitment of EU to strengthen its relations with Latin America, tackle issues "also at the heart of EU external cooperation and illustrate the strong common vision of society that we share with the countries of the Caribbean and Latin America".
The Summit provided an opportunity for HR/VP Federica Mogherini to meet political leaders from the region, reviewing bi-regional cooperation and exchanging views on global common challenges ahead of the EU-CELAC Summit to take place in Brussels on 10-11 June this year.
Meeting on a bilateral basis with a number of regional partners such as Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Cuba and the CARIFORUM group, Ms Mogherini held discussions around topics of common interest, such as climate change, post 2015 development agenda, security, education and innovation.
