Dublin planned to reinstate punt if euro collapsed

Dublin drew up "elaborate and detailed" contingency plans for the collapse of the euro and re-introduction of the punt when Italy was at the centre of the eurozone debt crisis towards the end of 2011, public expenditure minister Brendan Howlin told the Irish Times. "They were scary, scary times."
