European jihadists number around 6,000

Nearly 6,000 Europeans have left the continent to join jihadist groups in Syria and elsewhere, EU justice commissioner Vera Jourova told French paper Le Figaro. In January, Europol head Rob Wainwright said the number of 'foreign fighters' from Europe was “about 3 to 5,000 EU nationals".
