International conference to discuss development directions of corporate governance across EU

On 13 May, the 16th European Corporate Governance Conference on “Corporate Governance - a tool to increase competitiveness in the digital era  will take place in Riga during which leaders and the top experts of the European corporate governance will discuss current challenges of the industry.

The conference will be opened by the Latvian Minister for Justice, Dzintars Rasnaās, and speeches will be given by high-level representatives from the Latvian Government, representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD i), the European Commission, and the public and private sectors.

Since the priorities of the Latvian Presidency are Competitive Europe and Digital Europe, the conference will discuss governance challenges in the development of the digital economy, and the role of good governance in promoting the competitiveness of enterprises. Specialists and experts in the field will discuss how the corporate governance can be used as a tool to enhance growth and competitiveness across the European Union. The programme will include presentations and panel debates on recent developments in the field of corporate governance and trends in the use of e-Measures.

Speakers will include specialists in the field, such as Marcello Bianchi, Chairman of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee, Chris Hodge, Executive Director of Strategy at the Financial Reporting Council in the UK, Amra Balic, Head of BlackRock's EMEA i Corporate Governance and Responsible Investment (CGRI) team, Gatis Kokins, Chairman of the Supervisory Council of Lattelecom, and other experts in corporate governance.

The conference takes place under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and is organised by the Latvian Ministry of Justice in cooperation with Ernst & Young international consulting firm.
