Sarkozy's party votes for new name: Les Republicains

French opposition party UMP, led by former president Nicolas Sarkozy i, voted Saturday to change its name to Les Republicains, a controversial move as 'republic' usually refers to the entire country. Sarkozy hopes to become president in the 2017 elections. Polls indicate 25% would vote for him in the first round.
