You’ve heard of Brexit. But, what about Lexit? In the wake of the Greek crisis, UK left-wingers have been forming their own campaign for EU withdrawal. Set to launched this autumn, ‘Left Out’ will unite leftists and trade-unionists on an anti-austerity platform. Up to now, euroscepticism was viewed as a stigma in the UK left, carrying associations with right-wing policies on deregulation and immigration. But, supporters of Lexit argue that the left must take ownership of the debate on EU withdrawal, arguing the case for workers’ rights and public services. All in all, a trend that could have an impact on the upcoming referendum.
