Portuguese Socialist leader appointed PM

The leader of Portugal's Socialist Party, Antonio Costa i was appointed prime minister Tuesday and charged by president Anibal Cavaco Silva to form a government, the presidency said in a statement. Costa's unprecedented left-wing alliance brought down the minority government of Pedro Passos Coelho i, who won parliamentary elections on 4 October.
