Congratulation letter by Tusk to new Prime Minister of Latvia Māris Kučinskis

On behalf of the European Council, I wish to congratulate you on becoming Prime Minister of Latvia.

I have no doubt that under your leadership, Latvia will continue to contribute constructively to the development of the European Union, at a time when we are all facing difficult challenges, such as the migratory crisis, terrorism, geopolitical threats and the new settlement for the United Kingdom within the European Union.

I look forward to welcoming you at our meeting of the European Council next week. Let me also take this opportunity to thank outgoing Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma i for her valuable contributions to many European Council meetings and the excellent handling of Latvia's first ever EU presidency in 2015.
