Sophie in 't Veld will speech at a conference in Kiev on LGBT rights.
In ’t Veld will speech during the first part of the conference, between 9:30 and 11:00h. The conference will take place following recent significant changes in Ukraine’s political and social development tendencies. Along with signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, the new Ukrainian authorities have declared their ambitious aim to actualize the criteria for full membership in the EU in the shortest time period.
While in most other spheres of life here there exists a common agreement on the necessity for urgent reforms (to approach the current European level of development), all problems concerning actual equality for LGBT people remain obscure to Ukrainian society as a whole, and mostly disregarded by politicians and the government too.
The objectives of the conference include raising the awareness and easing the information learning curve of the Ukrainian government and society regarding the problems of LGBT people in Ukraine; and informing others about modern European standards and trends in this rights sphere - while sharing the experiences of achieving them in Western countries, especially within the new EU member ones; and making recommendations on the implementation of the LGBT components within the Action Plan to the National Strategy on Human Rights, given the current experience and best practices.

De D66 i-delegatie in het Europees Parlement i telt drie leden. De delegatie maakt deel uit van de fractie Renew Europe, waarin ook de VVD-delegatie i is vertegenwoordigd.
