International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (26 June)
This year's International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will focus on increasing support for prevention of drug use and strengthening resilience of children and youth against drugs.
Ahead of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Sunday, 26 June, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos i, said: "Europe faces an increasingly complex drug problem. New and traditional drugs continue to be in high demand and supply, with major impacts on public health, especially that of young people. Prevention remains central to the way Europe responds to these challenges. That is why we will spare no efforts to move from words to action on our commitments with all the relevant stakeholders, including our international partners."
On 31 May Commissioner Avramopoulos launched the 2016 European Drugs Report produced by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) offering a top-level analysis of the latest trends in drug supply, drug use prevalence, prevention, treatment, and policy across the 28 EU Member States, Turkey and Norway. Additional material produced by EMCDDA marking the International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking will be available in the EMCDDA website.
