The worsening security situation in eastern Ukraine, where heavy fighting with pro-Russian rebels recently broke out in the government-controlled town of Avdiivka, will be debated by Security and Defence Subcommittee MEPs on Monday at 15.00 with Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

The Ukrainian government claims that on 29 January the pro-Russian rebels violated the ceasefire and attacked the Ukrainian forces in Avdiivka using various types of weapons, including those prohibited by the Minsk agreements, such as Grad multiple rocket launchers. As a result of the fighting, power supply lines and infrastructure have been damaged, depriving over 22,000 people of electricity, water and heating.

The meeting of the Security and Defence Subcommittee will be web-streamed. You can follow the presentations via .

The debate will take place on Monday at 15.00 in Altiero Spinelli (1G-3) room.
