Commission Seminar on social dimension of Europe and on Deepening EMU
The College of Commissioners i discussed the reflection papers on the social dimension of Europe and on completing Europe's Economic and Monetary Union (EMU i)
On 1 March the European Commission i presented the White Paper on the Future of Europe, which marked the beginning of a process for the EU27 to decide on the future of our Union.
To accompany the discussion on the future of Europe, the Commission committed to publish a series of reflection papers that will offer different ideas, proposals, options or scenarios for Europe by 2025.
The Commission discussed today the first two reflection papers, on developing the social dimension of Europe and on Deepening the Economic and Monetary Union.
The reflection paper on the social dimension of Europe will be presented on 26 April while the reflection paper on the Economic and Monetary Union will be presented on 31 May, building on the Five Presidents' Report of June 2015. The paper will sum up the different options and indicate their consequences with an eye to further developing Economic and Monetary Union by 2025.
It is now time to look at how Europe can deliver a Union which “promotes economic and social progress as well as cohesion and convergence”, as called for by leaders in the Rome Declaration of 25 March 2017.
In addition, the Commission will also present before the end of the year reflection papers on harnessing globalisation, the future of Europe's defence and the future of EU i finances.
