“Football Leaks” triggers MEPs’ probe into murky side of professional soccer
Dodgy transfer deals, suspect contracts and tax evasion involving top footballers, agents and their clubs will fall under the spotlight during a parliamentary hearing.
Members of the Committee of Inquiry into Money Laundering, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion (PANA) will question representatives of FIFA, UEFA and the European Football Agents Association on Tuesday as part of a hearing prompted by “Football Leaks” -- an anonymous website which has hosted the largest leak of secret financial information in the history of sport.
Since 2015, European Investigative Collaborations (EIC), a network of twelve major media outlets, has reported on the steady stream of revelations published by the website. Tuesday’s hearing will begin with a contribution from the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad -- a member of the EIC network.
WHEN: 9:00 to 10:40 on Tuesday, 26 September
WHERE: Altiero Spinelli (ASP) 5G-2, Brussels
The meeting will be web-streamed. You can follow it via EP Live.
