Remarks by President von der Leyen at the joint press point with Ludovic Orban, Prime Minister of Romania

Met dank overgenomen van Europese Commissie (EC), gepubliceerd op donderdag 9 januari 2020.

Good morning,

It is a huge pleasure and honour to have the Romanian Prime Minister here today, Ludovic Orban. What a pleasure to see you again and what a pleasure to have you here at the European Commission! I think the very first time in this official function.

So I am very happy that we are going to have a chance to have a bilateral meeting today. A lot of topics are on the agenda. Of course, we are going to discuss your plans for the economy, your plans to reform the justice system, which is important. There are a lot of challenges but you know that you always do have the Commission at your side.

And of course, we started already to talk about the topics that are of common interest - be it the European Green Deal or be it, as I said, the development of the economy, but also to make Europe fit for the digital age. And in this topic, I count very much on Romania because you have a very excellent reputation what that is concerned.

So I am very much looking forward to our talks and I am happy that you are here.

Very welcome.
