Special Report 14/2003 - The Court's audit:

The main audit objective is to examine how the Commission manages the implementation of the objective of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) "to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural community". As the Commission uses three tools to measure farmers' income, the Court's audit concentrated on the quality of the data from the Farm Accountancy Data Network, the Economic Accounts of Agriculture and the Income of the Agricultural Household Sector.

The Court audited the collection by the Member States of the data for the three instruments mentioned above and examined the pertinence of these instruments, i.e. their appropriateness to the needs arising in the context of the management of the CAP by the Commission. The audit was carried out in six Member States (Germany, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Austria and Sweden) and at the Commission.

A press pack will be available during the press conference. The Special Report and summary will be made available on the Court's website in the 11 EU languages on Tuesday 10 February 2004 starting from 10h00 at
