The European Court of Auditors inaugurates an exhibition on the 30 years of the institution in Luxembourg,

on 17 October 2007

The European Court of Auditors this year celebrates thirty years as the external audit institution of the European Union. Established by the Treaty of Brussels of 22 July 1975, the Court began work on 18 October 1977 in offices in the Rue Aldringen, Luxembourg. Since 1988, the Court's headquarters have been based at Kirchberg alongside the other European institutions.

The European Court of Auditors started its celebrations by enhancing its presence in the capitals of the Member States of the European Union during the activities related to the 2007 Europe Day. In addition, an exhibition dedicated to the 30 years of the Court will be inaugurated on Wednesday evening, 17 October 2007, in the presence of high ranking representatives from Luxembourg and the Member States of the European Union. The Luxembourg Central Bank will further mark the occasion by issuing a silver commemorative coin with a face value of €25. In addition, on 18 October 2007 the European Court of Auditors will hold a seminar on "The future of public audit in the EU" with the participation of a number of European experts and senior figures from the institution.

The exhibition dedicated to the 30 years of the Court is composed of a series of thematic panels, a diaporama of over 150 photos and video extracts and the presentation of numerous documents. It will be held in the entrance hall of the Court's premises in the rue Erasme. Photographs of the various Court compositions and Presidents since 1977 will be displayed in the passage between the institution's two buildings, together with a panel of photos of a selection of past and present staff. Finally, a "30 year corner" will be set up in the library, where it will be possible to consult a number of significant documents relating to the development of the European Court of Auditors.

The exhibition will be open to the public every weekday afternoon from 19 October 2007 until 21 December (entrance from the rue Erasme, Kirchberg).

This exhibition is dedicated to all those Members of the Court and staff who have contributed, and continue to contribute, to the task that the Treaties have entrusted to the Court.

For 30 years, the European Court of Auditors has sought to contribute to improving the financial management of European Union funds at all levels for the ultimate benefit of the citizens of the Union.
