'Sail for Europe' in Scheveningen ter ere van 60e verjaardag Europees Congres in Den Haag (en)
The sailboat Traité de Rome stops in Scheveningen to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Congress of Europe Saturday 24 May 2008
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) who is celebrating its 50th Anniversary is one of the primary sponsors for the sailing vessel known as Traité de Rome in the context of the project Sail for Europe. Together they are promoting the European Union in around 20 ports across the 27 Member States.
The Traité de Rome will stop in the Marina of Scheveningen on Saturday 24th of May to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Congress of Europe that led to the creation of the European Union and the European and Economic and Social Committee.
The President of the EESC Dimitris Dimitriadis and Mr. Van Iersel, Dutch Member of the EESC, will welcome you on board of Traité de Rome at 5p.m.
A special Shuttle will be organised from the EESC information stand on the Boowplaats Europa at Plein and will leave at 4.30 from the corner of Korte Vijverberg and Lange Vijverberg.
The EESC, as the bridge between organised civil society and the European institutions, endorses the key role of facilitator and promoter of constructive dialogue between stakeholders at the European level. It understands that the objectives of the European Union as stated in the Lisbon Treaty cannot be reached without taking into account EU citizens and organised civil society various interests into account through participative democracy.
The boat Traité de Rome that symbolizes the spirit of European team, entrepreneurship and the respect of our environment will host visitors on board. It is therefore a unique opportunity for representatives of organized civil society and the citizens of The Hague to meet Members of the EESC and discover how EESC reflects their various interests in its daily work.

Sail for Europe
The European Economic and Social Committee represents the various economic and social components of organised civil society. It is an institutional consultative body established by the 1957 Treaty of Rome. Its consultative role enables its members, and hence the organisations they represent, to participate in the Community decision-making process. The Committee has 344 members, who are appointed by the Council of Ministers. |
