Special Report No 11/2008 of the European Court of Auditors
PRESS POINT: Special Report No 11/2008 of the European Court of Auditors, on the management of European Union support for the public storage of cereals, will be presented on 19 January 2009 in Brussels by Mr Olavi Ala-Nissilä, Member of the Court, with participation by Mr Jan Mulder MEP, the rapporteur appointed by the Committee on Budgetary Control (Cocobu) for this Special Report.
DATE AND TIME Monday 19 January 2009 at 6.30 p.m.
PLACE European Parliament press room (PHS 0A50), Brussels
The Court’s audit focused on the economy of European Union support for the public storage of cereals and, in particular, the extent to which costs have been minimised and revenue maximised.
The report seeks to answer the following questions:
-
-Have physical operations of the public storage of cereals been well managed?
-
-Do the Commission's procedures ensure that the costs incurred by the EU are minimised?
The observations made in the report relate in particular to improvements in budgetary transparency and, in some cases, the possibility of avoiding certain storage costs or loss of income from sales.
A PRESS FILE containing the Special Report and a summary in paper form will be made available 30 minutes before the press point starts. At the same time, 6 p.m. on 19 January 2009, these documents will also be published on the Court’s Web site, www.eca.europa.eu, in 22 EU official languages.
